What actually changes

Not before-and-after photos. Shoulders that work again, first pull-ups, lifting without flare-ups, and people who stopped dreading training.

Case studies

Three honest examples

Shoulder

Full overhead range after a long-standing shoulder injury

Where we started
Came in unable to press overhead without pain and had stopped trying. Years of guarding the joint had cost range in the whole shoulder girdle.
What we did
Rebuilt rotation and control at the shoulder blade before loading anything. Slow, boring, unglamorous work first — then pressing.
Where it landed
Pain-free overhead pressing and, in his words, a renewed sense of confidence in both body and mind.
Thanks to his guidance, I not only regained full mobility of an injured shoulder, but also developed a renewed sense of confidence in both body and mind.

Strength

From unsure in the gym to genuinely strong

Where we started
No real training history, low confidence, unsure what to do with a barbell or where to start.
What we did
Simple progressions, coached technique every session, and a programme that stayed honest about what she could actually do each week.
Where it landed
Consistent training, visible strength gains, and sessions she looks forward to rather than dreads.
I feel stronger and much more confident in what my body can do, which is a far cry from where I began. Sessions with Tom are, dare I say, fun?!

Movement

Training the whole body, not just the mirror muscles

Where we started
Had worked with other trainers and been given the usual push-pull-legs template. Movement quality was never addressed.
What we did
Assessment-led sessions built around how the hips, spine and shoulders actually move, then strength layered on top.
Where it landed
Better positions, fewer niggles, and a way of training that finally made sense.
Tom is different from the other PTs I've had. His way of working is uncommon — he focuses on the body as a whole and teaches about movement and mobility.

Tom manages to set exercises that challenge me just the right amount, that make me feel stretched, but never 'overworked'. He is patient and encouraging, yet also very friendly, with a great sense of humour.
